Indemnity Forms

All members will be aware that one is invariably asked to sign some sort of indemnity form before doing virtually any activity nowadays – be it a doing a 4 wheel drive trail, using a hotel swimming pool or using a bowling rink, etc.

The reasoning behind the requirement is to try and ensure that one is not sued unreasonably – and/or ones guests/clients take responsibility for themselves and their own actions.

If, for example, one takes part in a club guided trip one should be aware, despite all reasonable precautions being taken, of the possibility of damage to one’s vehicle – it’s in the nature of the activities which the club does. By signing an indemnity one is acknowledging that one is aware of the risks involved and will not hold anyone else responsible for injury/ damage to yourself, your vehicle or anything/anybody else.

Particularly since all our activities are invariably organised and run by our own members for no personal benefit to themselves, it is hardly reasonable that they should be put at risk.

What signing the indemnity does do is acknowledge that you accept all responsibility for yourself and your behaviour.

Everyone joining in club activities in the future, be they members or guests, will have to have signed an indemnity beforehand.
